Your First Visit

What to Expect
Warm Welcome & Personalized Exam

We take time to get to know your child — their comfort level, dental history, and unique needs. Your visit includes a gentle exam, digital x-rays (if needed), and a comprehensive evaluation by our caring doctors. Our goal is to make your child feel safe, relaxed, and confident.

Gentle Cleaning & Preventive Care

Our team will assess your child’s oral health and provide a cleaning tailored to their needs. We focus on prevention and education, sharing simple, practical tips to help maintain a healthy smile at home.

Guidance, Planning & Next Steps

We’ll walk you through your child’s dental health, discuss any recommendations, and answer all your questions. If further care is needed, we’ll create a clear, personalized plan — ensuring you feel informed, comfortable, and supported every step of the way.

Service Area

Serving children and teens from 4-20 in Ocala and the surrounding communities of Crystal River, Inverness, Beverly Hills, Leesburg and The Villages.

Office Regulations

Our office policy kindly asks that parents wait in the lobby while their children have x-rays, cleaning, and examination completed. Once our dentist has completed the exam we invite parents to come back and speak with them about potential treatment, oral hygiene routines, and any concerns that may arise. While we understand that some children may be initially a bit anxious about their first dentist visit, we want to build a trusting environment where they feel comfortable coming back every appointment. In special circumstances where children may require their parent’s assistance, we will allow them back for the appointment on a case-by-case basis.

We Love to See You Smile

FAQ:

Healthy Smiles offers nitrous oxide at our office, which provides a light level of sedation where patients may feel relaxed, euphoric (happy), and comfortable in the dentist’s chair. We find that this light sedation works best for patients who might be slightly nervous, but overall cooperative as they will still be awake and aware during treatment. For patients who require deeper sedation such as oral conscious or intravenous (IV) sedation, we will refer them to a dental office that performs these deeper sedations and may also be compatible with their insurance.

Normally we will see children lose their first baby tooth (lower central incisors) around 6 years old and have all their permanent teeth by 13 years old. But keep in mind that everyone is different! Some might be slightly earlier or later than others, which is normal. At every 6 months, our dentists will assess your child’s dental development and confirm that they’re right on track.

It is common for children to have spacing in their baby teeth, and even their two central front teeth when they are first erupting. Many times, as their other teeth begin to grow in the spacing will close; however, if we do find that orthodontic treatment is necessary we will guide patients in the right direction to starting that process.

My son had his first appointment here today and I just want to say I was beyond happy with the care he received. Due to COVID he had to be brought back by himself and I wasn’t even hesitant about it, they kept me informed the entire time he was with the Dentist. Amazing staff and service! Definitely recommend!!

Love Dr. Rick. She stays busy, must book appointments well in advance, but if you need to be seen quickly, call and check for cancellations. The staff are attentive and efficient. Great atmosphere for kids of all ages, even my teens.
